How to distinguish between a grower and a propagator?
Learn to recognize the signs that distinguish a responsible cat breeder from a so-called cat factory. Your choice directly affects the welfare of the animal.
The breeder is a member of an official breed association
A reputable breeder is registered with an organization such as FIFe, TICA, WCF, or CFA.
They have a cattery name and are listed in an official registry.
The kitten has a documented pedigree
Each kitten receives a pedigree certificate showing its ancestors. Breeders often claim that “papers are omitted to reduce the price” – this is a clear warning sign.
Health and the Environment
A responsible breeder is happy to show you the cat’s living conditions, health examination results, and vaccination record.
A puppy mill operator, on the other hand, avoids meetings, sells kittens too early, and doesn’t know who the parents actually are.
Follow-up Care and Communication
A good breeder stays in touch with you even after the sale and offers advice on nutrition and care.
A breeder disappears immediately after the sale.
